SNSW Para Development Squad Camp: A Transformative Experience in Para Swimming

Alyssa is a young multi-class swimmer currently training towards the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Multi-class swimming is swimming for athletes with a disability. Alyssa has recently attended a SNSW Para Development Squad training camp.

The SNSW Para Development Squad held a two-day training camp on January 12th and 13th, which proved to be a remarkable journey for all involved. From insightful training sessions to inspiring guest speakers, the camp offered a unique blend of learning, camaraderie, and fun.

Day 1: Testing Protocols and Guest Speakers

The camp kicked off with a series of rigorous tests aligned with Swimming Australia Para Testing Protocols. From the challenging 10 x 100m freestyle to the exhilarating speed tests, swimmers pushed their limits with the support of dedicated coaches and fellow athletes.

During lunch, attendees had the privilege of hearing from esteemed guest speakers, including Australian Dolphins Team Member Tim Hodge and Swimming Australia Para Flipper Squad member Millie Springett-Kelly, who shared invaluable insights into their career journeys and emphasized the importance of mindset in achieving success.

Beyond the pool, the camp fostered bonds of friendship and camaraderie that will endure beyond the two-day event. As participants strive towards their ultimate goal of representing Australia in the Paralympic Games, the spirit of determination and unity that permeated the camp serves as a testament to their unwavering commitment.

We extend our gratitude to the coaches and organizers for making this unforgettable experience possible and look forward to the continued success of the SNSW Para Development Squad.
