MARTY FILIPOWSKI

Marty first stated swimming at eight years old when his mother enrolled him in lessons at a local pool in the community where he grew up.  But it wasn't until 2005 when he discovered his passion for swimming in the ocean.  Five years later, he decided to take-on the English Channel and started training for that swim which he completed on 27 Aug 2013.  His crossing from England to France is noteworthy because it was recognised by the Channel Swimming Association as the Most Meritorious Swim that year.

Marty's English Channel success gave him the confidence to take-on other swims.  So far, he has completed five of the Oceans Seven swims including the English Channel, Catalina Channel, Cook Strait, Gibraltar Strait and the North Channel.  He has also achieved the Triple Crown of open-water swimming, which includes the English Channel, Catalina Channel and the 20 Bridges swim around Manhattan.

Marty's training programs for his swims around the world have included solo crossings of the Rottnest Channel in Western Austarlia and the South Head Roughwater swim.  Long swims in the Balmoral Beach and Manly Beach areas in Sydney and in the Brighton Beach area in Melbourne have also been part of his preparation.

Marty is also passionate about diversity and inclusion in sport and is an Athlete Ally ambassador.
