June was mostly spent swimming for a challenge organised by herspirituk zoggsuk breastcancernow initially 5 miles but unbeknown to me extremexstitch kept moving the goalposts and we were squeezing a final kilometre in on the 30th June to make the total 11 miles! Another swimmy Sunday and this time I finally made it back to Cromhall 💙
A little 600m at 10.3°. I’m slowly acclimatising to cold swims again and it feels good. I couldn’t believe how high the water level was at the Quarry!

I hurt my ankle Saturday at parkrun. I actually hurt it just after the third turn (of four) and carried on.
I haven’t run since. I’ve done other things to keep active BUT it’s still annoying!
Today I swam 5km made up of lots of freestyle with paddles. 400s backstroke and IM. It was amazing.
I love that when I can’t run I have other options.
Ankle feels much better. No bruising and the swelling has gone down. I’ll probably attempt a run later in the week.

Not going to go on and on about how meh I’ve been feeling because I am *trying* to be more positive 😌
BUT things have been tough, things have been v busy and to put it honestly…I’ve just fallen a little bit out of love with swimming atm 🥹 (don’t hate me) !!
I think after doing such a big event, after training a whole year for the Channel…the after drop has hit me hard 😔 and with that I’ve lost my swimmy spark a little…plus dealing with an injury it’s been a weird thing to navigate! 😶🌫️
But it’s not all doom and gloom 🙌🏻 I am taking time to rest, to do exercise that doesn’t hurt, to be with friends, to spend time doing other things I enjoy ❤️ and I know a little time out will allow me to come back happier, stronger and even more in love with swimming than before 💝🏊🏼♀️
PLUS today I got to try out my new STOOOONING cossie from zoggsuk (thank u so much guys, a v lovely gift) 😍🪸 you need to check out their new open water range…it’s Christmas after all, treat yourself 😛👏🏻 the thermal silver lining is bloody brilliant for keeping warm 🔥

She’s back in the cold water 🥳
Went into tonight’s swim thinking I’d give it 10 mins and see how I go. After my holidays, I hadn’t swam in the cold water since mid April, so I wasn’t expecting much with the lack of acclimatisation. But I loved it! Tonight made me realise how much I needed the cold water. 1km later and I’m feeling amazing. I think I could have gone further but an intimidatingly large swan skimmed across to me about 500m in and so I retreated (This is their patch after all 🦢)
It feels so good to be back, and I know these swims will come into their own to help me de-stress as I go into an intense
period at work and with my Uni masters!

I love doing a Boxing Day swim, although no skins swims this year as my cold water swim training hasn't quite reached that level for this season.
I normally do a zoggsuk wetsuit swim then get out, take it off and go in just my swimsuit. I actually found this really helped later on for completely ditching the wetsuit for swimming later in the cooler months.
But regardless, for today I'm really happy to have gone in and done a bit of swimming at such a low temperature. Normally my collar bone feels the cold most, or my forehead (no front crawl today), but this time it was my ankles. So as normal I did deep breathing to get me through that uncomfortable sensation... Then before I knew I was fine and able to swim. 🏊🏻♀️

Brightly coloured monstera leaves!
It's like it was made for me.
Another double layer swimsuit with reflective lining specifically for open water. They definitely keep your core temperature warmer.
There was a slight mix up with my orders so I was a little delayed getting this, but Zoggs customer service is brilliant.
So I now own 4 of these, I use them nearly everyday. In open water (so far as low as 10°c) and whilst teaching as I spend up to 7 hours in the water and it does affect your core temperature being in water that long.
Woohoo, so pleased.
Today's swims included a brief swim and several hours teaching in Bury and a lap around Capernwray Dive Centre.

It is time to decide... Are you a cold water swimmer?
Around this time of year is a wobble point for many open water swimmers. Are you happy to get in water that drops below 13 degrees? Or is it a case of hanging up the wetsuit until 2023?
Cold water swimming doesn't come easy, it takes time and acclimatisation. To be safe you have to gradually build. If you have been swimming all year then this is your chance to see how it feels, and don't feel you need to just do it in a swimsuit, add your layers! It can get cold!!
The main tip I have... is no matter how long you're in cold water, it's what you do after to warm up ✨
👉 Lay your warm clothes out before you go in
👉 Easy to put on clothes so ditch the lycra
👉 Get some post swim slippers
👉 Pop a beanie on
👉 Hot water bottle on your clothes
👉 Flask of hot tea or coffee
Don't get distracted by the swimmers high from cold water (trust me it's glorious), but getting warm is most important.
Enjoy and love the water but do it your way and most importantly of all, do it safely.

🙌YES🙌YES🙌YES ❤️❄️🏊♀️ Winter Swim Season is finally coming and I am SO SO SO HAPPY 😁
Over the weekend I kick started my training and swam in varying water temps from 18c (sea), 13.4c (pond) and 11.5c (river) – as a winter/ice swimmer I absolutely loving the lower temps again! I am really excited that we are definitely in the transition season from warm to cold water swimming and I get to swim again at my fave time of year - Winter! ❤️❄️🏊♀️and more fun times with swim buddies and winter swim challenges 😀🤗
Plus, I am taking some on new challenges, including practicing my freediving in preparation for my upcoming mermaid course and also planning to go and try Ice Freediving again! As well as my “still” goal to get faster 🙃 so pool training once (maybe twice) a week too! So it is deffo time for me to sort out my winter kit ready for the nippier water and training kit. That along with my changing robe, warm layers, bobble hat, hot water bottle, gloves/bobble hat, socks, flask and fave hot squash. I’m kicking off with sorting my fave zoggsuk kit ready:
❄️ Cossies – Pool and Winter Open Water
❄️ Swim Hat – Bright ones as I need to be seen in open water but also because I love pink, purple, blue, any coordinated colour to my cossie 😂
❄️ Googles and Goggle Spray – I use both prescription and non prescription
❄️ Earplugs – for open water swimming and freediving
❄️ Nose clip – I use for freediving practice in pool
❄️ Gloves – for my freediving but great too if you find the cold water painful on your hands.
❄️ Pull buoy, Kick board, Paddles, Snorkel, Fins – Pool training/Freediving and bog snorkelling training!

Your only at the start but already you know your addicted! 🌊
This was exhilarating. The lake was breathtakingly beautiful this morning, the sun reflected off the water and warmed my face while I swam. It’s peaceful, you feel free and afterwards euphoric 🙌🏻 Lots more swimming this time but still all quite close to the edge, not brave enough yet to venture out to the middle, I have the common fear amongst newbie wild swimmers…what lies beneath (googled articles on tips to overcome and safety the words helped the picture attached to the article did not 😱😅 last photo of this post)

Today I finally got to test out my new zoggsuk open water swimming costume (as recommended by swimcathswim )
It’s FAB! It fits in all the right places and kept me considerably warmer than my usual cossie - thanks to its silver lining.
We managed 20mins in the rather choppy sea - it was 9°c out of the water and 8.7°c in the water.

Cold 🥶 but bloody amazing 🙌🏻🤩😇
First wild dip 🌊 was only actually swimming 6 minutes 20 seconds according to my stopwatch. Felt like I could have been in there loads longer was enjoying it so much. But cautious not to push it, have some experience of cold water swimming…swam in a unheated outdoor pool in winter on a few occasions once with light snow covering the rooftops 😍☃️ Definitely aware that things can quickly change once your out. Did a little breaststroke just along the bank where the water was shallow enough to put my feet down and clear enough to see the bottom.
