Dive in to the World's Deepest Swimming Pool

Here at Zoggs; we’re always on the lookout for interesting and unique swimming experience’s, and the Y-40 pool in Italy is certainly one location where the term ‘in at the deep end’ acquires a whole new meaning!

This Italian hotels spa complex close to Venice now boasts the world's deepest swimming pool, awarded by the Guinness Book of Records. The Y-40 Deep Joy is just over 40 metres deep (or 138 feet) and is filled with over 1.1 million gallons of thermal water from nearby springs.

To get an idea of just how deep the Y-40 Deep Joy pool is, the famous Christ the Redeemer statue is shorter than the pool depth and the Statue of Liberty is just a little taller than this impressive pool!

For swimming and dive enthusiasts, it is not hard to realise why the name Deep Joy is so appropriate. The pool's temperature is controlled to stay between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius, which means wearing a wetsuit in the water is not necessary – simply grab your goggles and dive in!

The pool boasts several platforms for diving at different depths, as well as a series of underwater caves for divers to explore, designed for swimmers, divers and the more experienced free or scuba diver in mind.

For those who want to experience the wonders of Y-40 Deep Joy without getting wet, a suspended underwater tunnel that runs through the middle of the pool allows non-swimmers to view this record-breaking aquatic wonder.

Y-40 Deep Joy was opened earlier this year in a grand ceremony, which saw diving champions dressed as mermaids explore the depths of the pool. The hotel has plans to turn Y-40 Deep Joy into an international diving centre, while promoting the area as one Europe's premier destinations for thermal springs.

Before Y-40 Deep Joy smashed the record as the world's deepest swimming pool, the previous reigning champion was Nemo 33 in Belgium. At just over 34 metres deep, Nemo 33 is filled with 2.5 million litres of spring water and contains a number of diving platforms and underwater caves!
